About Us
Dr.Bense did his optometry degree in Northern Ireland and graduated in 2003. From there he did his work term at Specsavers Optical which is the most successful optical in the world. With his knowledge of how Specsavers ran their optical suites Dr.Bense started Bense Optical & Optometry in 2006 after he noticed the gap in the market for high-end eyewear at affordable prices.
We take pride in specializing in glasses and contact lenses. We now have the Visioffice from Essilor which is the most accurate method of measuring you properly for glasses. Currently we are the ONLY optical in St.John’s with this device. Customers come to us from all over the province for various reasons. We are well known for our high tech eye exams but also for our “invisible bifocal” or progressive addition lenses as they are correctly called. These lenses often lead to patients having trouble adapting to them or seeing properly out of them. At Bense Optical we use lens technology, which in St.John’s is only available at Bense, that almost always leads to quick adaptation to glasses. Others come to us for budget glasses that have “average” lenses which can be found throughout NL opticals. They are cheaper, but still do a good job. Finally, we are often visited by people who can’t get used to the glasses that they have bought elsewhere. We offer specialized fittings that in most cases solve these problems.
Here at Bense Optical we also offer other services such as laser vision consultations, contact lens exams/fittings and low vision examinations, all at no charge. (Please see our technology section for a full list of technology available to you.)
