Low Vision
We are pleased to announce that Bense Optical And Optometry have recently opened a new “section” of our company called Bense Low Vision. In Newfoundland and Labrador there are thousands of people suffering vision loss from diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts and many other disorders. These diseases can prevent someone from seeing T.V, reading a book or newspaper, cooking, recognizing family’s faces and many other daily activities. Most of these patients feel that their vision is as good as it can be and may have given up on these tasks. The truth behind most vision loss is that for the majority of people their vision can be improved dramatically with the use of low vision aids. These are instruments such as illuminated and non-illuminated hand and stand magnifiers, CCTV’s, distance and near telescopes, high powered reading glasses and much more. Bense Low Vision has the newest most high tech equipment from Eschenbauch which is a German company leading the way in low vision aids. With the use of these aids we have been able to change many people’s lives already and enable them to “restore” some sight necessary for everyday living. We are also working in close contact with the CNIB who help people with many other aspects of low vision care. If you or someone you know has some remaining vision left or even if their vision isn’t too bad but they are restricted to what they can do or see then we are more than interested in performing a low vision exam to help them.
A typical low vision exam lasts anywhere from a half hour to a couple of hours depending on the patients needs. We normally will ask the patient to have a friend with them and also to bring along any books they would like to be able to read, or knitting tools etc.
If you or someone you know is interested in booking a low vision exam please call Bense Optical And Optometry at 754-1250 or visit our website at benseoptical.com.
